Auckland Champs Preview

This Sunday (April 29th) the Auckland Sidecar Champs, incorporating the 3rd running of the Karl Barritt Memorial Trophy, hit Rosebank Speedway.

The Championship will be contested by a quality 20 bike field. Included in the field are defending champions Nick Edmonds & Paul James (37a), last years runners-up Russell Stuart & Andy Parker (46b), and the 3rd placed pairing of Kevin Moohan & Glen Bagshaw (0a) fresh from their win in the Bill Buckley Grand Prix last meeting.

Current NZ #2 Les Plummer & Kervin Demanser are down to run pending a medical clearance following Les’ eye surgery last week! 3NZ Derek Ramsay & Tony ‘Horse’ Hislop will contest on the bike which won the 2004 running of this meeting at the hands of Shane ‘Skids’ Campbell. Skids’ swinger from that meeting, Keiren ‘Wingnut’ Payne will be back to try and win as rider on the ex-Killkolly/Barritt machine (5p).

Reigning North Island Champs ‘Handbag & ‘Sally’ will be out to go one better than their 2nd placing in 2005. Former 2NZ Kent ‘Cousin’ Gilbert will be making another come-back especially for this meeting on the 18g bike. Fellow Gisborne riders Dean Miller & ‘Honk’ Fogarty (9g) and Clive Ireland/ Brendan Weber will also be making the trip up.

Mike Zachan & Darrin Edmonds (97b) will be having one last run on what has been an impressive unit before it changes hands. Also from the Hawkes Bay Dave Black & Pete Steigenberger (21b) will be back after running strongly here last month.
