Mark Goodyer Memorial

Frank Arnerich & Aaron Anderson (39a) continued their run of form at Waikaraka Park on Friday night, winning the Mark Goodyer Memorial.

The pair top-qualified for the 4 lap Grand Final with wins in both the heats. They choose to start from gate 2 in the final and after a brief tussle with defending champs Glen Murray & Jason Hercock (21k), pulled away to win by a comfortable margin.

Murray & Hercock were 2nd and 3rd place went to the 69k pairing of Warwick ‘Skinny” Graham & Raymond ‘Red’ George. Good to see 69k guys featuring in the results in their first meeting back from injury. Skinny returning after a crash at the North Island Champs in Kihikihi, and Red (usually swinger on the 4k bike) returning from a post-race ankle fracture from last season! Also good to see Skinny’s normal swinger Mike Sanson wandering around after breaking his leg in that same incident at this years North Islands.

Sunday’s meeting at Rosebank also attracted a good feild of bikes. Arnerich & Anderson carried on were they left off Friday night with a convincing first up win over the 5p of Payne & Carter. They ended the day with 3 wins from 5, beaten only in their two heats with the 37a of Edmonds & James who were riding together for the first time since the nationals. After four rounds the 37a was top on points, but they didn’t contest the fifth, which meant a win for the 39a pairing would leave them first equal after five rounds. Frank & Aza scraped home for the round five win after another close battle with the 5p outfit.

The next meeting at Rosebank Speedway is on Sunday April 15th and features the ‘Bill Buckley Sidecar Grand Prix’. The following meeting is the ‘big one’ on April 29th with the local title up for grabs- the Karl Barritt Memorial Auckland Championship. Entry is open to all competitors and there is $1000 prize money up for grabs at both these meetings + travel money for visiting teams.
